KoK Promotes Children’s Literacy by Sponsoring Summer Reading Program
Kids are in the home stretch of the 2009-2010 school year. But, just because summer’s almost here, doesn’t mean books should be abandoned until fall! Kickoff for Kids, Elmhurst’s premier children’s charity has partnered with the Elmhurst Public Library to help fund its 2010 summer reading program.
The library’s summer reading program is open to any child who lives in Elmhurst or attends an Elmhurst school. It reminds children that reading isn’t just homework – it’s fun too! The program encourages kids to find books that interest them and spark their imagination and creativity. And while exercising their minds, they can also win prizes by accomplishing specific goals!
Government studies show that many students lose one to two months’ worth of reading performance during the summer. And several summers of reading losses can have a significant impact on reading performance.
Literacy is a vital component to leading a successful life. Kickoff for Kids is proud to sponsor the library’s summer reading program – which can benefit every child within the community.
